JetMaster

The JetMaster-system cleans finned heat exchangers and spiral finned tubes of every type and construction depth

Kipp Umwelttechnik GmbH successfully employs the JetMaster procedure for gentle but intensive cleaning of finned heat exchangers with significant advantages in terms of cleaning results, costs and environment compatibility.

Advantages:

  • Consequences for the environment – because only air and clear water are used, only the operation of the compressed air compressor has an impact.
  • Energy consumption – the energy required for the JetMaster cleaning procedure lies well below the energy saved thanks to the cleaning
  • Conservation of water resources – due to the fact that JetMaster only works with very small amounts of water, it plays a significant role in saving water resources.
  • Health & safety – the procedure does not lead to injuries even if the jet comes into direct contact with the skin. There is also no risk to the respiratory organs because clear water without chemicals is used.
  • Preserving the service life of the systems – the cleaning procedure is part of the preventive maintenance protocols. The service life of the systems is increased thanks to the gentle cleaning and other damage is prevented.

The new JetMaster process was developed in cooperation with a university. JetMaster uses only compressed air and small quantities of normal water.

The water is pre-treated mechanically and then fed into a compressed air flow with a special design. The high cleaning performance primarily results from the cavitation effect when the jet meets the respective surface. This cleaning power can even remove oil and grease without the need for additional agents.

Due to the fact that the JetMaster only works with compressed air (only oil-free compressors or standard compressors with fine filter elements are used) and small quantities of water, the procedure can also be applied at sensitive sites because it has no impact on the environment. JetMaster usually works in the low pressure range of 2-6 bar.

JetMaster-combination system

Cleaning large surfaces with combination JetMaster & JetPower

Our sister company mycon GmbH developed the JetPower for cleaning large surfaces. JetPower allows fast cleaning of large-surfaces and heavily soiled finned heat exchangers and also all types of glass and facade surfaces. Thanks to the new system combination of JetPower & JetMaster, whose spray pattern can be set to up to one metre, large surfaces can also be treated inexpensively. Here, too, the system only works with compressed air and water with no chemicals.

Finned heat exchangers

Finned heat exchangers are used in many areas e.g. for industrial cooling systems, cooling engines, in refrigerated warehouses and in air conditioning units. They are the most commonly used energy transfer systems.

The global share of the total energy consumed across the world is significant and totals approx. 20%. In developing countries, the energy requirements for air conditioning is rising by about 7% every year. According to forecasts, this growth looks set to continue until the year 2050. Improving the efficiency of these systems by just 5% would have considerable impact when looked at from a global perspective.

Finned heat exchangers quickly become dirty as a result of sand, dust, pollen and other suspended particles in the environment. The dirt forms an insulating layer that has a significant impact on energy efficiency, quickly causing energy costs to rise by 10-20% or more.
Also, the corrosion caused by the soiling reduces the service life of the equipment.

In the past, finned heat exchangers were usually cleaned by spraying chemicals followed by the use of compressed air. The cleaning results of this procedure are often not satisfactory and also pollute the environment or pose a threat to employees.

Another method is to use high-pressure cleaning equipment, usually at a relative low pressure, and with additional chemical cleaning agents. However, the dense water jet can bend the sensitive finns very quickly, especially if the water hits them at an angle, and is also not able to completely penetrate the finned heat exchangers if these are installed at greater depths. The front part does get cleaned, but not all of the inner surfaces. In addition, this method requires a lot more water than our JetMaster method plus the fact that it contains polluting cleaning agents.

When cleaning the bus cooler, up to three exchanger units, one behind each other, can be cleaned without being dismantled.

JetBoy

Cleaning with JetBoy: environmentally friendly, chemical-free cleaning, with up to over 95% water / wastewater savings, easy handling

The JetBoy combines the proven principle of the JetMaster with very compact dimensions and significantly lower requirements on the compressed air supply. The required 420l per minute can already be supplied by a small compressor.
Water consumption is extremely low at approx. 0.10 l per minute.

The JetBoy is rugged and, due to its small size, absolutely mobile, making it an ideal device for cleaning small heat exchangers and other surfaces, even under difficult space conditions and within buildings.

Indispensable for many craft areas

If required, the JetBoy can also process cleaners or disinfectants. mycon also supplies the appropriate cleaners/disinfectants. This makes the JetBoy a universal talent that can be used for cleaning and disinfecting a wide variety of surfaces.
JetBoy can also be used for cleaning/disinfecting joints/surfaces in buildings and in machine areas.

JetBoy is also available as a mobile unit for the hotel/hospital sector.

JetBoy can be used in nearly all commercial and industrial areas.

Due to its small size, the JetBoy can clean smaller heat exchangers in hard-to-reach locations. The JetBoy’s low requirements for water and compressed air supply make it the ideal cleaning device for industrial and craft businesses.

In combination with cleaning agents, JetBoy can also clean calcification and oil stains on heat exchangers and other surfaces.

JetBoy can also be used as a mobile cleaning unit including compressor, for example in the hotel or hospital sector to remove dirt.

JetBoy also enables the cleaning of water-sensitive areas like engine compartment.

Special use JetBoy: uncovering stucco work

JetBoy’s main field of application is the cleaning/disinfection of lamella heat exchangers. However, JetBoy also makes excursions into other areas of application, here the area of uncovering stucco work.
Even with extremely low operating fluids of less than 500l of compressed air and approx. 0.10l of clear water per minute, JetBoy gently removes the paint over the stucco without causing damage. The small amount of aerosolized water is negligible. A simple design with foil is completely sufficient.

JetBoy also cleans large-area finned heat exchangers.

Mr. Wockenfuß, Head of Datacenter Services // Architecture & Platform Infrastructure of q.beyond AG at the Hamburg site confirmed:

For us, JetBoy is the optimal device for cleaning our V-coolers. The handling is simple and trouble-free. Since the surfaces of our finned heat exchangers do not get dirty everywhere in the same way, we can now act selectively as needed, even in addition to the normal cleaning interval. In this way, we can always keep our heat exchangers at an optimum performance level without any great effort.

JetBoy SP

JetBoy SP cleans air conditioners/coolers quickly and gently. The process technology corresponds to the JetMaster system for cleaning large exchanger surfaces with significantly lower compressed air consumption.

JetBoy SP offers new possibilities for cleaning the heat transfer apparatus of air conditioners and coolers with a compressed air input of 1.50–2.25 cbm/min with 5 bar pressure. JetBoy SP works without electricity, it uses ca, 0,20 l water per minute. Due to the cavitation effect of the nozzle jet, cleaning of heat exchangers without any use of chemicals is usually sufficient. For special problems/cleaning of other surfaces, however, the JetBoy SP can also be used with a cleaning agent or even disinfectant. Cleaning agents approved for the JetBoy SP are supplied. The sensitive fins of the heat exchangers are not damaged by the gentle jet cleaning with JetBoy SP.

Cleaning truck radiator with JetBoy SP

Truck radiators are robust and can often be cleaned without damage using high-pressure water. However, tests have shown that JetBoy SP achieves significantly longer penetration depths and can also easily reach several radiator surfaces arranged in a row. In addition, chemical-free cleaning with JetBoy SP is extremely environmentally friendly with a water consumption / wastewater discharge of approx. 0.20 l per minute, protects the cooler and contributes to a longer service life.

JetBoy SP reaches even hard-to-reach areas of truck radiators when installed.

Cleaning bus cooler with JetBoy SP

Bus radiators usually have somewhat more sensitive structures. This is where the JetBoy SP can make full use of its advantages.

JetBoy SP removes even heavy oil contamination from a bus intercooler.

PowerMaster-process

Cleaning plate heat exchangers of every type and size

Cleaning plate heat exchangers of every type and size with PowerMaster.

The blasting procedure PowerMaster works with compressed air, small quantities of water and, if necessary, additional water-soluble sanding agents.

To this end, an environmentally-compatible and water-soluble granulate is added directly to the compressed air jet. Just before the granulate exits the nozzle, it is wetted with water to increase the kinetic energy. The soft granulate does not corrode the surface or only results in minimal corrosion of the surface.

Plate heat exchangers that cannot be dismantled are treated with a combination of chemicals and the mechanical process.

TubeMaster is the first choice for non-abrasive cleaning of the insides of tubes. With dry ice, soft granulate or special hard granulates, it also has an added polishing effect.

The procedure can be specifically set to the respective needs and materials.

Depending on requirements, TubeMaster works with a jet pressure of between 4-10 bar. The cleaning effect is primarily restricted to the nozzle area and can be used in closed circuits with a filtering effect. Experience has shown that thorough cleaning with the TubeMaster and, in particular the additional option of polishing the insides of the tubes, greatly improves the temperature compensation and significantly reduces the energy costs. Polished surfaces have also proven to extend the operating times until the next cleaning interval.

TubeMaster is a dry cleaning method and can therefore also be used where the use of high-pressure waterjets could cause damage, for instance when cleaning sulphur condensers. If water were used here, this would produce sulphuric acid that would remain in subsequent processes and ultimately destroy the tubes. However, dry cleaning using brushes or pigs does not always produce the required results. TubeMaster easily removes stubborn encrustations from the pipes in this field. The TubeMaster is primarily used on shell-and-tube heat exchangers. We have experience in cleaning and polishing the insides of tubes made of the following materials:

  • Aluminium
  • Bronze
  • Graphite
  • Cast iron
  • Stainless Steel
  • Plastic
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Steel
  • Titanium
  • Special materials
